Thank you for visiting our website. The Glenwood Railroad Museum is located in the East wing of the historic Glenwood Springs Railroad Station.  The station was built by the Denver & Rio Grande railroad in 1904, and our museum has been in operation since 2003.

Since our opening we have acquired a collection of railroad artifacts, pictures and books. In the first room you enter (Ladies Waiting Room) we have a large scale model railroad featuring Rio Grande steam and diesel-powered trains along with a gallery of historic, regional railroad pictures, and a collection of memorabilia and artifacts from the seven railroads that have served the Roaring Fork Valley. In the eastern-most (Motorcar-express) room you will find a 7.5" gauge live steam locomotive, a Rio Grande rail motorcar ("speeder"), railroad semaphore signals removed from Glenwood Canyon, o-gauge toy trains, telegraphs, etc.

We have a gift shop selling books, t-shirts, railroad souvenirs and model railroad equipment.

We serve the community by conducting school tours and serving as the "point of first contact" for Amtrak visitors to our area.

Our purpose and mission -

The purpose of the railroad museum of the Western Colorado Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society is to obtain and display artifacts, books, documents and photographs relating primarily to railroads - Denver & Rio Grande Western, Colorado Midland, and other past and present railroads in this area.  Use of this collection will focus on educating local persons and tourists on the history and significance of railroads in the historical and economic development of the area.  Appropriate information on railroads in general will also be included.  This is intended to inform persons of the possibilities for railroads to help solve transportation.  Other related transportation means may also be included for comparison purposes.

If you are interested in helping with the Museum or donating items, please contact our General Manager or send us an email (click on Contacts).  Your donations are tax deductible, we are a 501c3 organization.
